Aleksandra Aleksandrovna Grigorovich (Alexandra Exter) was created on January 6, 1882, in Belostok, Russian Empire (now Poland). Her dad, called Aleksandr Grigorovich, was a rich businessman. She wedded an effective Kiev lawyer, called Nicolas Evgenievich Ekster, who was simply her cousin. Alekandra Ekster was a stylish, elegant, cosmopolitan woman, and quickly became the toast of the city. Her painting studio room in the attic at 27 Funduklievskaya Road was a rallying stage for Kiev’s intellectual top notch. There she was frequented by poets and authors Anna Akhmatova, Ossip Mandelstam, Ilja Ehrenburg, movie director Aleksandr Tairov, the dancers Bronislava Njinska, and ‘Elsa Kruger’, and several artists.
