One of the most prolific American directors, Alfred E. Green came into movies in 1912 as an acting professional for the Selig Polyscope Co. He became an associate to movie director Colin Campbell and began directing two-reelers, embracing features in 1917. His profession lasted in to the middle-1950s but his result was mostly regular, though there have been some gems included in this. A solid, reliable journeyman, not directed at flashy directorial details, he was selected by Mary Pickford to immediate a number of of her photos in the 1920s, and he led Wallace Reid and Colleen Moore in a number of of their larger hits. He aimed Bette Davis in her Oscar-winning efficiency in Harmful (1935) and was in charge of the industrial and critical achievement from the Jolson Tale (1946). That film, nevertheless, was accompanied by a string of regimen B pictures. Green had suffered for quite some time from arthritis, which got worse seeing that he got older. Within an interview, manufacturer Albert Zugsmith recalled that through the filming of Best Banana (1954) Green was therefore crippled by the condition that he was rarely in a position to move in the director’s chair.
