Legendary masked Mexican wrestler / actor who achieved icon status via his highly colourful wrestling career and starring appearances in nearly 60 movies. Given birth to Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta on Sept 23rd, 1917 in Hidalgo, Mexico, he was the 5th of seven kids and the family members relocated to Mexico Town in the 1920s where Rodolfo became keenly thinking about several sports activities including football, gridiron and finally wrestling. Wrestling became popular in the first 1930s in Mexico after many promoters had observed events in Tx, and in Mexico the activity eventually became referred to as “Luche Libre”, actually “free battle,” Mexico’s edition of professional wrestling. Rodolfo’s initial wrestling appearance was purported to have already been at Area Peralvillo Cozumel on June 28th, 1934, and he shortly became a dynamic figure for the Mexican wrestling circuit under different brands including “Un Hombre Rojo”, “Rudy Guzman”, “Un Demonio Negro” and “Un Murcielago II”. After primarily competing being a “rudo” ( poor or “high heel” wrestler ), Rodolfo became a “técnico” (great or “babyface” wrestler) and that is just how he continued to be for another fifty years. In 1942, his supervisor, Don Jesus Lomeli, was assembling a team of masked sterling silver wrestlers, and wanted Rodolfo to become listed on the ensemble. He was presented with the decision of three stage brands, “Un Diablo” (The Devil), “Un Santo” (The Saint) or “Un Angel” (The Angel). Rodolfo decided to go with “Un Santo” and initial wrestled under that name at Industry Mexico on June 26th, 1942. Through the 1950s, a Mexican designer called Jose Guadalupe Cruz seized upon Santo’s recognition with the neighborhood populace and started a “fumetti” design “Santo” comic publication that was to perform for over 35 years and experienced Santo fighting villains both actual and supernatural! Santo had resisted previous advances to surface in serials or movies, however he finally reneged and his first film appearance’s were in the ultra low quality Santo contra los zombies (1962), Santo contra cerebro del mal (1961) and Santo contra hombres infernales (1961), all shot in Cuba before Fidel Castro seizing power! The Mexican followers flocked to find out Santo in his part as a criminal offense fighting very hero around the movie theater display screen, and his film career actually exploded overnight! Santo had married twice during his life. First of all to Maria de la Rodriguez Montano and subsequently to Eva Enriquetta Vallejo Vadager, and he fathered eleven kids. A lot more than an professional or wrestler, he was a precious and venerated ethnic icon towards the Mexican people and beyond.
