Mini Biography

Given birth to in 1965 in the Icelandic capital town of Reykjavik, the girl of Gudmundur Gunnarsson (an electrician) and Hildur Hauksdóttir who divorced before her second birthday, Björk was raised within a hippie-type community with her mom and her seven siblings. She began to research traditional music at age 5 and released her initial record in 1977 (generally traditional Icelandic folk tracks and international strikes translated to Icelandic) when she was just 11. During her teenage years Björk became involved with several bands, many of them punk: Spit & Snot (1977), Exodus (1979-80), Jam 80 (1980), Tappi Tíkarrass (1981-83) (highlighted the documentary Rock and roll in Reykjavik (1982)) and Kukl (1984-86). She after that created the pop group The Sugarcubes with Einar Örn Benediktsson and Sigtryggur Baldursson and finally other users Þór Eldon (with whom she experienced a child in 1986), Margrét Örnólfsdóttir and Bragi Ólafsson. The music group released its 1st solitary in 1986 and its own first recording, “Life’s Too Great”, in 1988, and found out international success, specifically in UK. During her Sugarcubes years, Björk also collaborated using the Icelandic jazz group Gudmundar Ingólfssonar Trio for the recording “Gling-Glo” in 1990, and presented 808 State’s “Ooops”, that was the beginning of her digital music curiosity. The Sugarcubes ultimately split after several albums in 1992 and in 1993. Björk released her initial solo record, “Debut”, in cooperation with manufacturer Nellee Hooper. The world-wide success from the record (almost 3 million copies marketed) permitted her second record, “Post”, in 1995, also with help of not merely Nellee Hooper but techno experts Graham Massey (from 808 Condition), Howie B. and Tricky, accompanied by the remix recording “Telegram” the entire year after. After some complications in the united kingdom, where she resided, she went to Spain to record her third recording, “Homogenic”, released in 1997. Her primary collaborators had been the ‘Icelandic String Octet’, Tag Bell (from LFO), Tag Stent and once again Howie B, as well as the recording could be her most digital. After Danish movie director Lars von Trier uncovered her in the music video of “It’s Oh Therefore Calm”, he asked her to try out the main function also to compose the music for his brand-new movie Dancer at night (2000). She gained the Best Celebrity Award in the Cannes Celebration, and stated that it might be her just cinema overall performance (although she’d currently acted in the Icelandic film The Juniper Tree (1990)) since it was as well painful on her behalf and because she regarded as herself a music designer rather than a cinema designer. The initial soundtrack was re-worked by her before released as an recording under the name “Selmasongs” in Sept 2000 (including a fresh version from the duet melody “I’ve Seen everything” with Thom Yorke). Her 4th record, essentially the most tranquil, “Vespertine”, highlighted a chamber orchestra, an Icelandic choir and harpist Zeena Parkins, and was also an effective cooperation with Matmos. She after that successively released a publication of photos and text messages, series of Dvd and blu-ray, a Greatest Strikes recording and two unique boxes (“Family members Tree” and “Björk Package”). She also got period to marry musician Matthew Barney, with whom she acquired a little girl in 2002. In August 2004 she constructed and sang “Oceania” for the Starting Ceremony from the Olympic Video games in Athens. This music was presented on her 5th recording, “Medúlla”, released about fourteen days after the wedding ceremony. It’s mostly made out of vocals plus some game titles are near experimental music, offering choirs, Inuit vocalist Tanya Tagaq, Japanese designer Dokaka, Robert Wyatt, Rahzel and Mike Patton, but also collaborating once again with developers Matmos, Tag Bell and Tag “Spike” Stent.
