Charles Stoneham initial worked like a matte painter in Pinewood Studios – he was used in the general shops there and painted while a spare time activity. Cliff Culley, the in-house matte painter in the studio room saw Charles’ function and provided him employment at middle 60s. Cliff was a good painter, especially of details, and he educated Charles in the finer factors of matte painting.
