Mini Biography
Created in Birmingham, Britain, Charlie Hall was an associate from the famed Fred Karno vaudeville troupe, which gave the globe Charles Chaplin and Stan Laurel. Hall found its way to the U.S. in the first 1920s, after Chaplin and Laurel, and moved into movies playing a foil for most from the era’s best comics. He’s best kept in mind, though, as the brief, stocky, black-haired, bad-tempered nemesis to Laurel and Oliver Hardy in ratings of their movies, frequently playing a spouse jealous of Hardy’s attentions to his wife, a contending store owner, or simply a bystander who winds up within an altercation using the duo.
