After playing in a number of Irish bands (including The Actions), in 1972 Wilkinson was cast as Judas Iscariot in the Dublin production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar; a job he continued to reprise in London and on the United kingdom national tour. In 1976, Wilkinson sang the component of Ché Guevara on the idea album for the musical Evita.
