Originally from LA, California, Dan Levinson continues to be based in NEW YORK since 1983. He graduated from NYU’s Tisch College from the Arts and Group in the Square Theater College in 1987 having a B.F.A. in Episode, but is well known primarily like a clarinetist and saxophonist, focusing on jazz from the 1920s and ’30s. Similarly in the home as both bandleader and sideman, Dan’s roster of musical affiliates includes such titles as Mel Tormé, Wynton Marsalis and Dick Hyman. Dan offers performed in Brazil with filmmaker Woody Allen’s music group, as well as with Japan, Iceland, Latvia, and eighteen Europe. From 1990 to 2002 Dan toured with vocalist/guitarist Leon Redbone. Since 1993 he is a person in Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks, NY City’s preeminent 1920s orchestra, with whom he offers made an appearance at Carnegie Hall, on “NIGHT TIME with Conan O’Brien”, and on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie House Friend” radio system, not only is it noticed on all five months of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”. Dan’s effective Benny Goodman tributes have already been presented both around the East Coastline with Wayne Langton’s NY All-Star Big Music group and throughout Germany with Andrej Hermlin’s Golf swing Dance Orchestra. He offers documented over 150 CDs, including nine under his personal name. Dan’s dad was maker/production supervisor/assistant director Artwork Levinson (“THE BEST 12 months”, “Breaking Away”, “All of the President’s Males”, etc.).
