Scottish-born David MacDonald got his trained in the industry in america under famous producer/director Cecil B. DeMille, who employed him in 1929 being a creation assistant. MacDonald came back to Britain in 1936 after his apprenticeship with DeMille and guaranteed a job being a movie director on what had been known as “quota quickies”, movies that were produced quickly and cheaply to satisfy a British federal government requirement a specific percentage of movies shown in Uk theaters needed to be made by Uk companies.
