David Weissman can be an Emmy Prize nominated filmmaker, instructor, film programmer, presenter and longtime activist. He’s most widely known as manufacturer from the acclaimed documentaries, “We Had been Right here” (2011) and “The Cockettes” (2002). David spent a lot more than three years in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, where he was deeply involved with this city’s ethnic and political lifestyle. “We Were Right here” and “The Cockettes” both premiered at Sundance. We Had been Here premiered theatrically, and broadcast internationally – in america for the PBS series Individual Lens. “We Had been Right here” was for the shortlist for the 2012 Greatest Documentary Academy Award. “The Cockettes” was also released theatrically, broadcast on Sundance Route and BBC, and received the LA Film Critics Award for Greatest Documentary of 2002. Both movies received nominations for 3rd party Spirit Honours for Greatest Documentary of the entire year. David has taught classes in “Producing Feature Documentaries” in Portland, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, and Seattle. He provides trained classes and workshops within a many areas of filmmaking, and is a visitor speaker, and shown his just work at many colleges, including USC, Stanford, Wesleyan, Yale, UC Santa Cruz, and Princeton. David can be co-founder and co-director (with Russ Gage) of QDoc: The Portland Queer Documentary Film Celebration.
