Mini Biography

High, cheerful, outdoorsy main character of Hollywood B films who were only available in display business as a child associated his vaudevillian parents (“Flanagan and Edwards, the Rollicking Twosome”) within the stage. In his teenagers, Dennis began to create film scripts while going to college. Then tried to break right into movies as a supplementary, showing up under his delivery name Bud Flanagan. His easy-going way and impudent grin — probably reminding Clark Gable of himself (they worked well collectively on Saratoga (1937)) — resulted in the star recommending Bud to MGM administration for leading tasks. Promptly, Bud Flanagan became Dennis O’Keefe, citizen tough man of actions dramas and the casual comedy. Serious operating was rarely asked but Dennis taken care of the material directed at him with aplomb and great humour. After his agreement with MGM expired in 1940, he free-lanced and made an appearance in, probably, three of his greatest pictures: to get Roland Adolescent and Joan Blondell in the wonderful supernatural murder spoof Topper Results (1941); in the Val Lewton-produced thriller, The Leopard Guy (1943); and in the tense criminal offense melodrama T-Men (1947) which he co-scripted (with John C. Higgins) for Eagle-Lion. This rather unambitious small film for that which was essentially regarded as a ‘poverty row’ studio room proved so effective it spawned a CBS radio series 3 years later on. Dennis was selected for the business lead (though his personality was renamed) and his delivery was ideal for scripts which well balanced dilemma with light humor. For some of the time between 1944 and 1952, Dennis alternated assignments on radio with film function. He previously another business lead in the 1945 radio serial “Hollywood Secret Time” being a film director-cum-sleuth. On display screen, he shown his penchant for humor in the funniest edition from the much-filmed Brewster’s A huge number (1945), accompanied by the forgettable farce Obtaining Gertie’s Garter (1945) (in the same steady). Another reasonable, marginally off-beat humor, was THE GIRL Desires Mink (1953), co-starring Dennis with Ruth Hussey and Eve Arden. Furthermore, there were ratings of ‘inexpensive and cheerful’ actions films including many made in European countries. Dennis eventually changed his hands to directing with Angela (1954), a criminal offense thriller occur Rome which he also co-scripted beneath the pseudonym Jonathan Rix. By the end of the 10 years, Dennis starred in his very own short-lived tv sitcom in regards to a widowed LA syndicated columnist.
