In 1965 at age 24 Dick Traum was smashed between two cars at a gas station and needed his correct leg amputated. Undaunted, Traum, who got been an athlete and got wrestled in university, learned how exactly to walk and finally run having a prosthetic calf. In 1976 Traum became the 1st amputee to effectively complete the brand new York Town Marathon. In 1983 Traum founded the Achilles Monitor Club, a business for disabled sportsmen that afterwards became referred to as Achilles International.
