He’s the child of Vaudeville great, Clarence Stroud, from the Stroud Twins and vocalist Ann McCormack, who toured the globe with Frank Sinatra. Don was raised on the seaside in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his stepfather, Paul Livermore, and his mom, Ann, owned and operated the favorite “Embers Steak Home” and nightclub where Ann performed nightly. Don thrived within the seaside in Waikiki beneath the watchful eye of such mentors as Blackout, Dirt, Buckshot, Rabbit and Steamboat. He discovered very much from these popular seaside kids and in 1960, at age 17, he positioned 4th in the “Duke Kahanamoku Globe Surfing Tournament” at Makaha, Hawaii. Don was browsing at Waikiki when he was found out. Acting professional Troy Donahue was filming Hawaiian Attention (1959) and required a stunt dual for his browsing moments.
