The child of silent-screen star Alma Hanlon and Broadway writer/press agent Walter Kingsley, Dorothy Kingsley began her career as an uncredited gag writer for the Bob Wish Radio Present and, afterwards, the Edgar Bergen Radio Present. Manufacturer Arthur Freed place her under agreement to MGM; her first project was polishing the Garland-Rooney musical Female Crazy (1943). She afterwards wrote several scripts for Debbie Reynolds and ‘Esther Williams (I)’. After departing Hollywood for Carmel, California, she and her hubby William Durney began the Durney Vineyard brand winery.
