Mini Biography

The son of the wealthy physician, Emile de Antonio was raised in the tough coal-mining town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and it produced a deep impression on him. His sympathies had been generally with working-class people (although he was a Harvard graduate, he was sometimes a dock employee, a peddler, the captain of the river barge and an agent in war-surplus apparatus), and his documentaries are decidedly Marxist in school of thought. His most well-known film is most likely Point of Purchase! (1964), about the Army-McCarthy hearings a decade previously, but his most questionable films will be Millhouse (1971), a scathing indictment of then-President Richard Nixon, and In the entire year from the Pig (1968), a radically left-wing perspective over the Vietnam Battle.
