Dublin-born Eric Mayne was knowledgeable at Westminster and Durham in England and spent almost 30 years in the stage both in London and his indigenous Ireland. He previously a penchant for Shakespearean jobs and in old age lectured in Shakespeare on the Los Angeles College or university College. Mayne, along with his imposing six-foot body and beard, was tailor-made for the silent display screen and invariably ensemble as much or comic foil. After arriving in Hollywood, he became an hugely prolific, sought-after personality participant. He co-starred in Oscar Apfel’s experience film The Oakdale Affair (1919), opposing Evelyn Greeley. In Rudolph Valentino’s The Conquering Power (1921), he liked high billing as Victor Grandet and was a unforgettable Dr. Saulsbourg in Harold Lloyd’s knock-about humor Dr. Jack port (1922), the type of role afterwards performed by Sig Ruman. Eric’s name was high up within the credits once again within the John Ford-directed Cameo Kirby (1923) as Colonel Randall, and there have been many more jobs to follow. Mayne’s career dropped with the development of sound images, though he remained popular as a supplementary and small-part helping actor.
