A distant relative of Herman and Joseph Mankiewicz, Francis was created in Shangaï in 1944. In 1945, his family members relocated to Montreal, where Francis would spend all his child years. Within the sixties, he graduated in Geology from Montreal University or college and worked within the woods for some time before recognizing geology is probably not his true phoning. In 1966 he enrolled in the ‘London College of Film Technique’.
