Composer, conductor, pianist, songwriter and arranger, raised in Oakland, California because the age group of four a few months. He examined at Chico Condition College in north California and discovered to play just about any device. He was a specialist baseball player for a while (second base using the Oakland Acorns), and a pianist in region nightclubs accompanied by an over-the-road stint being a pianist using the Merle Howard orchestra. Back LA, he became a member of the Bob Astor music group in 1939 and following that linked to Jimmie Lunceford (a pal of Astor’s) for whose orchestra he started to create arrangements and music. In springtime of 1940 he quit that work to build the complete collection for the Lionel Hampton music group.
