Created and raised within the South of Limburg, Gijs moved to Amsterdam in 1992 to review theater, film and tv at the College or university of Amsterdam (UvA). During this time period he started collaborating with co-students on theater and video productions. In 1998 he started working like a script-continuity / associate movie director. In 2001 Gijs founded his personal one-person business Umbrafilm. While doing work for tv and film he steadily began growing his actions with storyboarding and composing.
