From New York’s Birdland, Basin Street East, as well as the Village Vanguard, Gordon ‘Whitey’ Mitchell toured with big band greats Benny Goodman and Pete Rugolo. He performed Carnegie Hall with Gene Krupa and made an appearance with Buddy Wealthy, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie on Jazz on the Philharmonic. He caused Andre Precin, Charlie Ventura, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, Jack port Jones and documented with Barbra Streisand and Anita O’Day. He could be noticed playing the bass single introduction for the strike record, THE STAND BY POSITION Me. In the mid-60s,Gordon ‘Whitey’ Mitchell shifted to Holywood to become screenwriter and found focus on the Bob Hope Display, All In The Family, Get Smart, The Jeffersons, Mork & Mindy, Mary Tyler Moore, The Odd Couple and so many more. He had written the feature film Personal Holiday resort, starring Johnny Depp. In 1995 he and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Hand Desert, California where he hosted his very own talk radio present, The Power Lunchtime, interviewing celebrity guests through the entertainment world and later on,The Natural Golfing Hour. He became a panel person in the Hand Springs Walk of Superstars and provides his own superstar for the Walk of Superstars. He’s been inducted in to the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Popularity at his alma mater Ridgewood SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, in NJ. He provides two books out: Superstar Walk, HELPFUL INFORMATION to the Hand Springs Walk of Superstars and his autobiography, Hackensack to Hollywood: My Two Present Business Careers. Various other credits include tv composing instructor at UCLA in LA with UCR in Palm Desert,CA, columnist for Golf Current information Mag and columnist for Desert Entertainer Mag.
