Given birth to in Abilene, KS, in 1888, Harry Beaumont started his show-business profession early–he quit college to be an acting professional in a journeying stock company, and finally made his method to the brand new York stage. In 1912 he started working like a film acting professional for Edison studios–which was headquartered over the river in New Jersey–in from two-reel pants to serials, and in addition began composing screenplays. He started directing in 1915, remained with Edison for any year and went to Essanay Studios. The studio room awarded him the honor of earning its initial sound musical, The Broadway Melody (1929), which gained an Oscar for Greatest Picture. However, that picture was virtually the pinnacle of his profession; he continuing directing, generally at MGM, in to the 1940s, but non-e of his following films rose very much above the “B” level. He aimed his last film, Alias a Gentleman (1948), in 1948, and passed away in Santa Monica, CA, in 1966.
