Redhead Inez Courtney was the quintessential coquettish soubrette of Broadway music humor in the 1920’s. Having still left school, she deserted plans to become milliner and rather embarked on the career being a ‘area of expertise dancer’ in vaudeville (where she obtained the nickname ‘Mosquito’),offering a five-year apprenticeship. She was on Broadway by 1919, initial within the ensemble but shortly garnering good testimonials for “The Crazy Rose” by Rudolf Friml and for the faculty musical “VERY GOOD NEWS” (1927), where she danced two amounts with Gus Timid. She even got a leading function in “Planting season is here now” (1929) but found Hollywood at the same time when musicals had been starting to fade – following the Great Melancholy.
