Mini Biography
Pioneering actor who was simply among Hollywood’s 1st – years before Sidney Poitier – to crush the Stepin Fetchit stereotype of dark males as shiftless illiterates. Although in a few photos Edwards would portray subservient character types (e.g. “General” George C. Scott’s valet in Patton (1970)), he shipped accurate dignity in his shows. He is specifically kept in mind for his leading part in Home from the Brave (1949).
