American film editor who occasionally directed, but received Oscars in his major field. The boy of Harry W. Gerstad, silent film cinematographer, Harry Donald Gerstad was raised in Hollywood. In his past due teenage years he got are a laboratory associate at Hal Roach Studios, after that Warner Bros., and lastly at Republic Photos. Following the Further World Battle, he started editing feature motion pictures at RKO, operating frequently with director Edward Dmytryk, who mentored Gerstad and helped him discover function.
