Jo Röpke was created in Gent on 4 Oct, 1928. He majored in economics at Ghent Condition College or university (RUG) and was researcher at Brussels’ ULB (1953-1958) and associate teacher at his alma mater RUG (1958-1962); after that he customized in film, teaching on the Hoger Rijksinstituut voor Toneel en Cultuurspreiding (HRITCS, also called RITS). In 1962 Jo Röpke joined up with the Flemish open public broadcast TV as freelancer and director, and following a year succeeded Roland Verhavert as presenter from the every week movie program Première, viewed by thousands of movie lovers, and soon changed it from a serial ‘publicity’ format to more critical review articles, yet, in a gentle humoristic design, of more than 12,000 photographs till his retirement in 1991; since he was continuously plagued by significant health issues. Röpcke was also film critic at Studio room Brussel (open public radio), correspondent en critic with some film journals, sat for the board from the Vereniging truck Journalisten truck de Periodieke Pers (created press journalism culture) and in the jury of varied film celebrations. Finally, also after his pension he presided the humble, Belgian-Brussels International Film Celebration, in which capability he annually went to the primary, French Cannes Celebration, where he also passed away.
