Joe Foss was created and raised on the farm just outdoors Sioux Falls, SD. As a guy he was fascinated with the exploits of Charles A. Lindbergh, and vowed to 1 day time “trade his equine for any plow.” He became a member of the Marines during WWII and, despite his age group, became a pilot. Foss obtained 26 kills through the battle, tying Eddie Rickenbacker’s WWI record. Foss received the Medal of Honor for his function. He later offered like a colonel through the Korean War. After Foss still left the military, he went into politics, serving in the South Dakota legislature. In 1955 he became South Dakota’s youngest governor, providing two years for the reason that workplace. He was also a devoted hunter and sportsman. He offered as the American Soccer League’s first chief executive (1960-1966), was the initial sponsor of ABC’s The American Sportsman (1965) and was chief executive of the Country wide Rifle Association from 1988 to 1990.
