“Indian” Joe Nolan was a minor-league hockey participant in the Eastern Hockey Group using the Clinton Comets and afterwards using the Johnstown Jets. The Jets had been the motivation for the 1977 film “Slap Shot” starring Paul Newman where Joe shows up as “Clarence ‘Screaming Buffalo’ Swamptown,” the head-dress putting on oldtimer earned to help the Bulldogs beat the Chiefs in the ultimate video game. Indian Joe retired through the EHL and came back to Clinton, NY where he passed away in the first 1990s.
