José López Portillo con Pacheco was created about June 16, 1920 in Distrito Federal government. He was the just man born from the relationship between Jose Lopez-Portillo y Weber and Refugio Pacheco. He analyzed legislation at UNAM and, for a few years, was a teacher at that organization. During the authorities of Luis Echeverría was undersecretary of Patrimonio Nacional, movie director from the CFE and, since 1973, financing minister. On Sept 20, 1975 was elected PRI applicant for the presidency from the Republic. With 17,695,043 votes, he gained the elections and in December 1, 1976 he assumes the presidency. His term was proclaimed at worldwide level by building relations with the federal government of Ruler Juan Carlos I of Spain. In January 1979, Pope John Paul II been to Mexico. Aged 83 years and victim of a bad cardiac complication due to pneumonia that had delivered him to hospital, José López Portillo passed away in Mexico Town at 20:15 am in Tuesday, Feb 17, 2004. His continues to be rest in the Pantheon Armed forces in the Distrito Government.
