Roland Freisler rose from small-town attorney to main judge, prosecutor and jury in the Nazi Ministry of Justice, where he oversaw a large number of tests of opponents–both true and imagined–of the Nazi program. A soldier in the German military during World Battle I, Freisler was captured from the Russians and interned in Russia, where he embraced Communism and became a member of the German Communist Party upon his launch after the battle.
