Big, burly, personality actor, among the toughest of display heavies, Leo Gordon’s effective physique, coupled with his deep, menacing tone of voice, was guaranteed to strike fear in to the center of even the bravest display hero. Movie director Don Siegel, who utilized Gordon in his jail film Riot in Cell Stop 11 (1954), once stated that “Leo Gordon was the scariest guy I’ve ever fulfilled” – this from the man who experienced aimed John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Bette Midler! Siegel wasn’t discussing just Gordon’s display presence. Before getting an acting professional (he studied in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts), Gordon offered a stretch out in San Quentin jail for equipped robbery. “Riot in Cell Stop 11” was filmed at San Quentin, and several from the guards kept in mind Gordon from his period there, when he was seen as a troublemaker. Jail officials wouldn’t normally allow Gordon enter and keep the institution using the additional cast and team users; he was just permitted to enter and leave by himself, and was completely searched every time. Gordon was also a screenwriter, turning out many screenplays for Corman. He wasn’t simply limited to composing low-budget sci-fi movies, either; he penned the screenplay for the WWII epic Tobruk (1967), composing in an excellent component for himself as Kruger, a hardcore sergeant inside a platoon of German Jews masquerading as Nazi troops to help inflate a German essential oil storage facility.
