Masami Kurumada was created in Dec 6th, 1953, in Tokyo, While a young guy he dreamt to become a sailor, however in senior high school he discovered his true vocation, the artwork of storytelling. Kurumada read “Ashita no Joe” (a Box-Fight manga by Tetsuya Chiba) and realised that he wished to do something like this aswell. He began to attract some mangas of his personal and sent a few of these to publishers from coast to coast. Shueisha noticed his function “Otoko Raku”, a tale about boxing and released it, in 1974, when Kurumada was just 21 years of age. Kurumada quickly started focusing on another tale, “Sukeban Arashi”, the storyplot of Rei Kojin-Yama, a woman with a man atittude leading a lady gang. “Sukeban Arashi” can be viewed as his first strike. It lasted 2 yrs, from 1974 to 1975 and was released in the “Shuukan (every week) Shounen Leap” magazine. It had been later gathered in 3 tankobon (pocket manga). Using the finishing of “Sukeban Arashi”, Kurumada released a short tale in “Shuukan Shounen Leap”, called “Mikereko Rock and roll”.
