Ransford qualified simply because an architect, graduating from the College or university of Illinois. He proved helpful in this career for most from the 1920’s. In 1940, he became a member of the artwork section of 20th Hundred years Fox, eventually increasing towards the rank of artwork director. He continued to be with Fox until his pension in 1961. Ransford frequently worked in cooperation with Richard Time or Lyle R. Wheeler. He was referred to as a careful craftsman, noted specifically for his sharpened, bright production style of Keep Her to Heaven (1945) so that as artwork director from the Foxes of Harrow (1947), both which obtained him Oscar nominations.
