Mini Biography

Michael Vincente Gazzo was created in Hillside, NJ, on Apr 5, 1923. He went to Erwin Piscator’s Dramatic Workshop at the brand new School for the GI Costs after getting demobilized from the united states Army Air Power after World Battle II. Gazzo’s first main success was being a playwright. His play about medication craving, “A Hatful of Rainfall,” was successful on Broadway, working for 389 shows in 1955 and 1956 and earning Ben Gazzara and Anthony Franciosa Tony prize nominations as Greatest Actor and Greatest Featured Professional, respectively. Nevertheless, his second (and what would end up being his last) Broadway play, “THE NIGHT TIME Circus,” also starring Gazzara, was a flop, long lasting just 7 shows in 1958, “A Hatful of Rainfall” was converted to an effective film by Oscar-winning movie director Fred Zinnemann in 1957. Franciosa earned an Oscar nomination for reprising his function in the film. Gazzo considered screenwriting, penning the Elvis Presley hoses-opera Ruler Creole (1958). Ultimately he turned back again to performing, where his stocky entire body and exclusive screech of the voice produced him a first-rate personality actor with the 1970s. His biggest and best acting gig found him when Richard S. Castellano refused to surface in The Godfather: Component II (1974) because of a cash dispute. Castellano’s personality Clemenza was wiped out off and Gazzo was ensemble as Clemenza’s successor in the Corleone criminal offense family in NY. Gazzo was excellent as the old-fashioned, unsophisticated mafioso who, thinking he continues to be betrayed and proclaimed for loss of life by his don, changes state’s proof against him, and then honor the Mafia code of “omerta” in the long run. Gazzo earned a Best Helping Professional Oscar nod for his efficiency. Gazzo continued to function in movies until his loss of life, mostly assaying Mafia bosses and various other lawbreaker types. On film, though, he could use of typecasting in his regular television performances and play great guys. He passed away of a heart stroke on Feb 14, 1995 in his hometown of Hillside, NJ, at age 71.
