At 12 years of age López started composing for Chile’s most prestigious newspaper (El Mercurio). Along with his column ‘Thoughts of the Penguin,’ he obtained devoted supporters and eventually an expulsion from college for poking fun on the Chilean education program. In 1998 he founded the website Sobras.com, which commented on movies, television, video gaming, and comic books. Sobras grew and became López’s creation firm, Sobras International Images. Through Sobras he began directing music movies (Nominated, MTV Video Music Honours, 2002) and screenwriting (MTV Latin Honours, 2003). He also made the comedy display ‘Piloto MTV,’ (MTV Latin America) which he had written, aimed, and starred in. In 2004, López wrote and directed his 1st feature film: ‘Promedio Rojo,’ a dark young comedy that Quentin Tarantino called, “The funniest movie of the entire year.” ‘Promedio Rojo’ was a box-office smash. It had been chosen by film celebrations around the world including Mar del Plata IFF (Argentina), Tokyo IFF, Sitges IFF (Spain), as well as the SXSW, LA Film Event (US). López’s second feature, the sci-fi intimate humor ‘Santos’ (2008) was co-produced by Troublemaker Studios (‘Sin Town’) and Telecinco Movie theater (‘Pan’s Labyrinth’) having a $6 million spending budget. Santos earned the Unique Jury Reward at Fantastic Fest. After ‘Santos,’ López wrote and directed the best grossing Chilean film of 2010: ‘Que Pena Tu Vida’, the intimate comedy inspired an effective trilogy: ‘Que Pena Tu Boda’, 2011), and ‘Que Pena Tu Familia’. ‘Aftershock’ is López’s initial English vocabulary film, made by his business Sobras by Miguel Asensio, Eli Roth, and Brian Oliver. The film can make it’s debut as of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. López includes a large internet group of fans in with an increase of than 50,000 fans on Twitter.
