Peter Appleton may be the child of David and Dorothea Appleton of Denver. Appleton got intrigued with editing and enhancing whenever using his dad, a mag editor, as a teenager. He began his Hollywood film editing profession in the 1970s with movie director Robert Altman, after capturing an Altman little-known but ground-breaking brief subject known as ‘Container Au Feu’ — and being asked with the movie director to edit his film Buffalo Costs as well as the Indians, or Seated Bull’s Background Lesson (1976). Next, Appleton edited Robert Benton’s The Later Present (1977) (made by Altman). Since that time he’s edited a great many other movies both in Hollywood with his current home of Portland, Oregon. In the Northwest, Appleton has offered as sound editor on almost all of director Gus Van Sant’s motion pictures. He’s also ADR supervisor on Todd Haynes’ film DEFINATELY NOT Heaven. Appleton spent some time working at lots of the industry’s major mixing up levels: Universal’s Hitchcock, Sony Picture’s Novak, Warner Hollywood, Disney Stage-A and Paramount in L.A.; Saul Zaentz Film Middle in Berkeley, and Todd-A.O. in NYC. His current project is co-editor/first helper on ‘Elephant’, Truck Sant’s brand-new feature capturing in Portland. Flexibility is Appleton’s strong fit.
