Created in 1938 in NEW YORK and raised in NEW YORK, Alabama and Islip, Long Isle, Peter Beard started keeping diaries young. He got his first photos at age twelve and pictures quickly progressed into an expansion of his diaries, in an effort to preserve please remember preferred items. In 1957 he came into Yale University like a pre-med undergraduate, but quickly switched his main to art background, learning under Vincent Scully, Joseph Albers and Richard Linder. Journeys to Africa in 1955 and 1960 piqued his passions and, after graduating from Yale, he returned to Africa. In the first ’60s he worked well at Kenya’s Tsavo Country wide Recreation area where he photographed and recorded the demise of over 35,000 elephants, which later on became the main topic of his 1st book “THE FINISH of the overall game” (1965). Through the same period he obtained Hog Ranch, the house next to Karen Blixen’s (Isak Dinesen), whom he previously fulfilled through his cousin Jerome Hill. Hog Ranch, located close to the Ngong Hillsides, became his house foundation in East Africa. Beard offers written additional books on his African encounter: “Eyelids of Morning hours” (1973), “Desiring Darkness” (1975) and “Zara’s Stories: Perilous Escapades in Equatorial Africa” (2004), created for his girl. Beard’s first show was in the Blum Helman Gallery in NY in 1975. This is quickly accompanied by his landmark set up on the International Middle of Picture taking in NEW YORK in 1977. This present exhibited his photos, elephant carcasses, burnt diaries, taxidermy, African artifacts, books and personal memorabilia. Furthermore to creating original artwork, Beard has befriended and collaborated on tasks with many renowned artists including Andy Warhol, Andrew Wyeth, Richard Linder, Terry Southern, Truman Capote and Francis Bacon. In 1996, soon after he was trampled by an elephant, his first main retrospective opened on the Center Country wide de la Photographie in Paris, accompanied by various other exhibits in Berlin, London, Toronoto, Madrid, Milan, Tokyo and Vienna. Beard presently splits his time taken between NEW YORK, Montauk Stage and Kenya, coping with his wife and agent Nejma and their little girl Zara.
