Peter Westbrook may be the child of Ulysses Westbrook, an African-American, and Japanese-born Mariko Westbrook, who also divorced after moving to Newark, NJ, where he was raised. He was frequently taunted by community kids about his multiracial history, and to maintain him out of road fights, Mariko offered him a $5 bribe to wait a fencing course at Essex Catholic SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. Peter was connected simultaneously. In 1970, he received a full scholarship or grant to NY University or college, and in 1974 received his first nationwide saber fencing tournament. Westbrook continued to earn 12 even more nationwide championships, three silver medals on the Skillet American Video games, and a bronze medal in the 1984 Olympics. In 1991, he founded the Peter Westbrook Base, which gives over 1,000 disadvantaged kids between the age range of 10 and 18 the chance to understand fencing. His autobiography, ‘Harnessing Anger: JUST HOW of the American Fencer’ (1997), was nominated with the American Library Association for the Reserve of the entire year Award.
