Younger brother of director Leo McCarey, Ray McCarey entered the film business within the mid-’20s being a prop boy, working his way as much as assistant director, screenwriter and director. In the first 1930s he became a member of Hal Roach Studios, where he aimed many Our Gang and Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy comedies, after that shifted to Columbia, where he helmed many of The Three Stooges pants. McCarey worked in every genres and several studios, from musicals at Republic to westerns at Columbia, but the majority of his result was regular and he under no circumstances attained the stature of his well-known older brother.
