Born in Twickenham, Britain in 1938. When she was six years of age, she used dance lessons with Kate Walker at Weybridge. In 1949, she migrated to Sydney, Australia with her parents, where she continuing her dance training at Estelle Anderson’s dance studio room. 1955 saw her first dance contract with JC Williamson’s musical “Can Can”, which toured Australia and New Zealand for an 18 month period. More than the next couple of years, she made an appearance in many takes on, including Alice in Wonderland, The Willow Design Dish and Hey Diddle Diddle. From around 1960, she appeared in several television range special offers. In 1965, she became the elements woman at GTV9. She also continuing to surface in range displays in Australia, and in addition in Canada in 1966. In 1964 she starred as Shirley Muggleton in “Barley Charlie” and continued to surface in tv shows including Number 96, Arcade, G.P., Gotcha, Heading Home, House and Away and everything Saints. 1967 noticed her show up as Madge the Manicurist in some Palmolive detergent commercials, which produced her an Aussie television icon. Beard’s career continues to be very long and varied. In 2011 she was granted the Medal from the Purchase of Australia ‘For services towards the arts, especially through dance.’ Also in 2011, she was honoured having a Life Time Accomplishment Award from the Australian Dance Honours committee.
