Hailing from Leeds, Britain, Westmoreland gained his degree in Politics on the College or university of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and immediately after moved to America to go after filmmaking. His 2006 film “Quinceañperiod,” co-directed with Richard Glatzer, earned the Viewers Award as well as the Grand Jury Award on the 2006 Sundance Film Celebration. It later found the Humanitas Award, as well as the John Cassavetes Nature Award.
