Beginning his job at AT&T-Bell Laboratories, Al Protzman became among the first radio transmit engineers at age group twenty in 1922, dealing with the AT&T channels WEAF and WJZ, and with the National Broadcasting Firm following its founding in 1926. From 1930 to 1936 Protzman worked in Hollywood like a audio engineer for Fox Film and its own successor 20th Century-Fox. Among his display credits were many “Charlie Chan” movies and “THE ENERGY as well as the Glory”, starring Spencer Tracy. In 1936 NBC, then beginning tv system tests, approached Protzman to be their 1st TV cameraman. He approved and finally became among TV’s earliest Complex Directors (TDs). In 1939, Protzman shown a paper, “Tv Studio Technic,” towards the Culture of FILM Engineers which referred to NBC’s TV tests in great fine detail. Al Protzman retired in 1966 as Movie director of Technical Procedures for NBC. He passed away in 1981 in Bronxville, NY, aged 79.
