Annie Besant, British article writer, socialist and feminist activist, was created in 1847, the only child of William B. P. Solid wood, a nonpracticing doctor, and the previous Emily Morris. Both had been Anglo-Irish Protestants. Annie grew up a devout Anglican, and religious beliefs remained a key point throughout her existence, offering the decisive spur to her pioneering function for interpersonal justice. Educated privately by Miss Marryat, sister from the novelist Frederick Marryat, Annie Solid wood wedded Frank Besant, a clergyman, in 1867. The relationship produced two kids, a child, Mabel, and a child, Digby. Frank’s mental cruelty and assault resulted in a legal parting in 1873 and Annie’s abandonment of her naive Christianity. She was from the radical atheist Charles Bradlaugh (1833-1891) as well as the socialist Fabian Culture. Besant and Bradlaugh released a treatise advocating contraceptive and had been prosecuted; because of this she lost guardianship of her child. In 1889 she became a disciple from the Russian spiritualist and mystic Madame Blavatsky. Thereafter she visited India where she founded the Central Hindu University in 1898. Her Theosophy and the brand new Psychology was released in 1904. She became chief executive from the Theosophical Culture in 1907, a post she kept until her loss of life. She also became mixed up in Indian independence motion, founded the Indian House Rule Little league in 1916, and became the just British female to serve as chief executive from the Indian Country wide Congress in 1917.
