Hall of Famer Billy Williams, who made his popularity as a superb hitter like a still left fielder for the Chicago Cubs, was created on June 15, 1938, in Whistler, Alabama. He produced his major little league debut using the Cubs on August 6, 1959, and in his 1st full season, earned the National Little league Rookie of the entire year award in 1961. In his 16 years using the Cubbies, was called to six All-Star groups. Noted for his consistency, in 18 years (he completed his career using the Oakland A’s in 1975 and ’76, playing in the American Little league Tournament series against the Boston Crimson Sox in ’75) he racked up 2,711 strikes to get a .290 career average to go with 426 house runs and 1,475 RBI. In 1972, he led the N.L. having a .333 batting typical while striking 37 dingers (third best in the little league) and traveling in 122 runs (second in the little league). Because of this efficiency, he was called “Sporting Information” Participant of the entire year. He was also mentioned for his durability: He kept the N.L. record for consecutive video games used 1,117, a tag since surpassed by Steve Garvey. Williams was enshrined in the Hall of Popularity from the vote from the Baseball Authors of American in 1987.
