Mini Biography

Carlo Mazzone was created in Padua, Italy and caused Vittorio Gassman, Dario Fo, Giorgio Strehler among others in post-war Italy. He started his performing profession like a mime and was Marcel Marceau’s 1st Italian partner. He was associate to Jacques Lecoq from 1948 -1951. In 1958 he emigrated to the united states, where he made an appearance in several stage productions and in the 1965 film “The American Wife” with Ugo Tognazzi. He started to make use of both parents titles, and became referred to as Carlo Mazzone-Clementi. He dedicated his life towards the spread of mime and Commedia dell’Arte in america, and trained at Stratford, Ontario; Carnegie Mellon, Brandeis, NYU, as well as the American Conservatory Theater. His college students included Julie Harris, Rene Auberjonois, Joan vehicle Ark. In 1974 along with his wife Jane Hill, he founded a college in north California, for the physical teaching of the acting professional. Known as the Dell’Arte College of Mime & Humor, the school proceeds even today as Dell’Arte International College of Physical Theater.
