Producer, director, writer and songwriter who also shifted from a high-school education to a show-business profession, directing and producing (and associate-producing) movies with Sam Goldwyn, Arthur Freed, and Darryl Zanuck. He direced the Broadway musicals “Pins and Fine needles”, “Sing Out the news headlines”, “Carmen Jones”, “Road Picture” and “My Darlin’ Aida” (and he was the librettist for the second option). He also co-authored the play “THE TRAINING of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N”. He was an associate from the Dramatists Guild as well as the Writers Group, and he became a member of ASCAP in 1954. His popular-song compositions consist of “King Natural cotton”, “Me and Lee”, “Why Ain’t We Totally free?”, and “My Darlin’ Aida”.
