Danish-born Harry August Jansen had not been the 1st magician to don the sobriquet ‘Dante the Magician’ — that honour belonged to fellow Scandinavian Oscar Eliason (given birth to in Utah to Mormon parents). Eliason, invariably attired in courtly gown, performed stage illusions, like the spirit-cabinet work, touring america, Mexico, Canada and Australia as soon as the 1890’s.
