Dennis Petersen was raised in northeast Ohio and began performing in elementary college has when he was seven. For his birthday, he was offering a Kodak Brownie 8mm camcorder with which he started making backyard pants. His first brief film was The Jogger (1984) which earned him honours through the Hollywood Teenage Film Culture, and a scholarship towards the Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied filmmaking. His other award winning short films include, Condition of Disorder (1985), and Axe and Ye Shall Receive (1989). His 1st feature film was the thriller _Scot-free (1995)_, which starred Ellie Valleau and Wayne Black.
