Doris June Betts (nee) Waugh was created in Statesville, NEW YORK in 1932, the only kid of Mary Ellen and William Elmore. In 1950 she graduated from Statesville SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, and went to the School of NEW YORK at Greensboro. While an undergraduate pupil she married after that law pupil Lowry Betts, who afterwards became an area judge in Chatham and Orange Counties, NEW YORK; that they had three kids. She gained the Mademoiselle University Fiction competition during her sophomore calendar year (1953) for the storyplot “Mr. Shawn and Dad Scott”. After operating as a newspapers reporter for several years, she became a member of the faculty from the University or college of NEW YORK at Chapel Hill in 1966.
