A former cartoonist, Gregory La Cava came into movies during WWI as an animator for Walter Lantz on such animated movies as “The Katzenjammer Children” series. Employed from the Hearst Corp. as the editor-in-chief because of its International Comic Movies department, La Cava turned to live-action movies in the 1920s and started directing two-reel pants. Graduating to features, La Cava obtained a reputation like a surefooted humor director, in charge of such classics as My Guy Godfrey (1936) and She Wedded Her Manager (1935).
