Man made his Gilbert & Sullivan debut in age 14 simply because Yum-Yum within a college creation of “The Mikado”. He afterwards played primary tenor assignments with amateur societies, before signing up for the D’Oyly Carte Opera Firm being a tenor chorister in 1974. He offered in the chorus before Firm turn off in Feb 1982, completing sometimes as First Yeoman (1975-79) and Leonard Meryll (1980-81) in “The Yeomen from the Safeguard”.
